Our Interview with Moms Everyday

Kids' Music Playground was recently featured by the national organization Moms Everyday, making Mom's Life Easier. In our interview with Jen Lennon, we talk about how important it is to introduce your child to music between the ages of 3 and 5. At this time, their ear development is at the peak for helping the brain to grow musically.

For information about the classes that we offer, please click "Classes" from the left side menu. Here you can virtually sit in on a class by watching our online video of the kids in action. A Look Inside the Classroom of an Early Course

The “Early” course lasts 3½ years. And has 36 lessons given over 10 months of a year. Classes are an hour each week and involve parental participation that ensures success at home! It also allows many parents to learn, and re-learn music in a delightful way!

The method book used the first year is “The Music Playground” from Way-to-Play methods, designed to grab the young childs’ heart for music, and connect music to their young learning world! After the first year, the Faber and Faber method books are used up to Level 2A. The curriculum is written around these books giving much variety in movement, ensembles written to songs, games designed for learning retention and composition activities. This method is used by the Royal Conservatory and by many private studios that will best help with the transition of moving to private lessons upon graduation.

As children frequently solo in class, two programs are given during the course, the last of which is a celebration graduation complete with trophies and diplomas! The children experience a deep satisfaction knowing they have completed the course and have accomplished the goal!

A Look Inside the Classroom of a Not-Too-Late Course

The “Not-too-Late” course for the 6-7 year old child is designed for the first or second grader. This course lasts 2½ years and also has 36 lessons given over 10 months throughout the year. Parental participation is still required, and the Faber and Faber method books are used from the beginning, ending with Level 2A. Two programs are given during the course, and a ceremony including trophies and diplomas also complete it!

We have been in Colorado Springs for more than 10 years, and have had an average of 200 students per year, a low rate of attrition, and many graduates! Our graduates are going into Children's Chorale, private lessons in piano, guitar, and flooding Youth Symphony and our local band and orchestra programs. They have a knowledge of how music works, great ear skill, know 33 staff notes, all rhythms, key signatures and have the foundation they need for a lifetime of music!

The "Early" Course is designed for the 4-5 year old child, when 80% of their ear is developing for music. Research shows that keyboard courses for the early child improves their ability to think, learn, reason and create.

The "Not Too Late" course is designed for the 6-7 year old child. The course moves quickly and aims for fast results in order to motivate the child to make music a priority when many activities are vying for their attention. With our course, music wins!

Both courses promote relationship with the parent and allow both parent and child to learn music in a non-pressured, positive atmosphere. An educational, entertaining environment is our priority. This is an activity that doesn't take away from family time!
